Nano Aquarium
Watch this space for a proper guide for nano aquarium setup coming soon.
For now please look through these videos as they present several concepts of setting a nano tropical aquarium.
Nano means small or very small, in reality a small amount of water (few liters) is not stable enough to support tropical fish for a long time. The toxin levels can spike and be fatal to life. Small tanks look cute but aim for bigger nano tanks if you want to keep fish alive. No problem thou if you only keep plants, snails and shrimps.
The video below shows simple and very basic (yet effective) setup of a nano fish tank. The hardware is widely available but from my experience not many aquarium shops stock small plants useful for similar jobs and any longer plants would require frequent pruning.
This next videos show many examples of Planted Nano Aquarium. This is a different approach than Many of these Nano Aquascape have been awarded on international exhibitions. Enjoy! I always do.

The plants are carefully selected and the shrimps play not only an ornamental role but also help keep the plants clean. Some of the tanks look simple but believe me it takes tons of experience to create a nano tropical aquarium as beautiful as those.
If you’re a student on a budget with limited space in your dorm room and simply want to have a pet fish, you may create a super simple freshwater nano aquarium like this:
